KATA

Welcome to the New KTJW Kata Section!

The Cover of Channan

This is the tentative beginnings of a new area that has long been neglected on KTJW. For the longest time I felt that there were enough kata resources on the Internet to satisfy most visitors that came this way. But over time, and after some very nice and persistent encouragements I have decided that it is time for us to open up an area where the kata of Shotokan stylists, (and more besides) can be explored, understood, expanded upon, and played with.

Some kata performers have been contacted and have already consented to record in video format the standard Shotokan kata. Those additions will find their way here over time. Please be patient as we slowly get those sessions recorded and prepared. If there are other kata enthusiasts reading this page who have worked hard on a particular kata and would like to share their performances here, please contact me to arrange to have your files sent my way. It is my hope that as time marches on, visitors will be able to see a variety of people, with different body-types, and of different ages too, for each of the kata we explore.

So, don’t be shy. If you are keen to "put your stuff out there" let me know. I would be delighted to see what you have put together.

In addition to having kata performances hosted here on KTJW we also intend on having a BUNKAI section as well. When people talk about what "bunkai" is all about, what they are really addressing is the concern, "Ok, kata is beautiful and looks like a dance, but how does it really kick butt?" "Bunkai" is the "how" kata kicks butt.
