My very kind friend Mark Passmore of Australia made a nice little review of my book. Scroll down and check it out. Also take some time to cruise around Passmore-Sensei's site. He has a lot of information and is a featured author on this site. His book, which still blows me away with the sheer volume of photos, is extremely interesting and well worth you contacting the man to get your own copy.

This site is astonishing in its mass of material. I was really quite surprised to see so much content for a karate organization's site. There are a number of articles, sections of the instructors, a dojo directory, a section on history, the dojo kun, etiquette, interviews, news, feedback from visitors and members, testing information, and biographies of people connected with the organization. Spend an hour or two cruising around this site. There is quite a bit of material. Beautifully designed, smooth navigation, this is the kind of site I would build myself for a club or an organization. Well done! Excellent work!

This is the home of Mark Passmore, my new friend from Australia. I have also reviewed Mark Passmore's excellent book entitled, Karate-Do: a challenge of self. I recommend the book, and I also recommend this site. Please take a look around on it. This is one of those few sites on the net (unlike this one at times!!!) that is updated with lots of good material. Mark Passmore is a man who pursues karate wherever it is found, fusing things together where he likes, exploring material in both Shotokan and Shitoryu worlds, bounding off into Kobudo and other areas. But such exploration is not done as it would be with a teenage boy whose attention span is like that of a fruit fly. Mark Passmore is a fellow who has been around for a while, is very serious about self-defense and making karate really work. If you live in Australia anywhere near the man, and are serious about karate, you owe it to yourself to go and see what he has to offer.

A breathtaking site owned and operated by the Karate Union of Australia. Evan Singer, the National Administrator, seems to be the guy behind the scenes in putting this together. This site has a ton of material to be foraged and found on their beautiful pages. A nice kihon page, extensive kata information and video downloads, and a nicely put together grading section. This site is slick. Go and check it out. Wow.

Authentic Shotokan

NEW! http://www.authenticshotokan.com

Authentic Shotokan Karate Australia was formed in 2004. The school is not sports focused and teaches karate-do, kobudo, karate jutsu and women's self defence courses.

Homepage of one of karate's trail-blazing historians, Joe Swift. Joe, a consummate perfectionist, is a walking encyclopedia of karate history. Also a very friendly gentleman who is as easy-going as he is informed. Living in Tokyo as a professional translator, Joe Swift is one man who knows what he is talking about.

OpenHistory

Follow this link to see what Chris Spackman, this site's html guru and patron saint, is up to on the web. Chris's site is an encyclopedic account of the history of Japan. This site has a lot of background information on Japanese History and is one that you should take a close look at whether it be for research or interest's sake. Chris has assured me that his work will be one that will continue on indefinitely, so check it out often.

Eric Pike is the man who maintains this site. It is absolutely chock full of Shotokan information, links, and ways for people to access the greater Shotokan world. Where some sites have no links because they don't want visitors to leave them, this site goes the opposite way with access points and promotional links to places like the Shotokan egroup with Yahoo, the SRSI, and a whole bunch more. I really like sites like this because they promote karate, they want you to get information for yourself, and want to expose you to a greater Shotokan karate world. Nice work Eric.

http://www.japan-guide.com

If you are interested in finding out more things about Japan, this is a good reference. The site is well designed to help people get information about all kinds of things related to Japan, its people, and its culture. Highly recommended for those interested in adding some “Japanese flavor” to their karate experience, and I do not mean adding sea weed or mayonnaise to anything you are normally doing.

If you would like to talk about exchanging links with Karate The Japanese Way, please feel free to contact me at mark@karatethejapaneseway.com. Content should be karate based and primarily for the purposes of education or providing resources and instruction for beginners to karate.
