NEW!

www.shotokankaratedo.com

Logo

This is home of the Swindon Shotokan Karate-do Club run by Andi Kidd. A wonderfully designed site with a fair bit of material, this club site has all the information that you need to get going. I especially liked the extended article by the couple who lived, worked and did karate in Japan. It was interesting, and neat little read. More material is promised to come on the site in the months to come, including more (ahem ahem) book reviews. I can think of a book or two that (ahem) could get reviewed there! LOL. Nice job Andi. And thanks for the nice words that go with the link back to KTJW.

NEW!

A horribly overdue link, and I hope that Paul Herbert will forgive me not getting this link up sooner, this is a club site that is recently affiliated with the newly constructed JKAE (Japan Karate Association of England). A nicely designed site, with beautiful navigation, this site is set up like most club sites are. There are buttons on the left side for you to click on and go through the various sections of the site: senior teacher profiles, grading info, recent events, photos, links, an FAQ and the like. Take a look around. Well designed page here Paul!

www.kugb.org/

Massive British Shotokan organization. Headed up by Andy Sherry. This is a MAJOR Shotokan organization in the UK and well worth your time to check them out if you should be there, even on vacation. Inquire within for a club near you!

www.chelmsford-karate.co.uk/

Charles Naylor's club. Jane Naylor and I have been chatting on and off over the months and she is a delightful person to chat with. If you are in this part of the UK, you should check these guys out.

www.rskc.org/links.cfm

Ian Garside is the head honcho running this club in the Rossendale area of Lacashire. Lots of things to peek at there. Lots of photos for you to check out. Navigates well and has a very clean look. Also links back to KTJW. Bless their dear hearts.

www.gokken.prv.pl/

Breathtaking site that makes mine look sick and pathetic. Navigates like a dream, beautiful images and colors. Nicely done. Links back to KTJW too. Very much appreciated! You may read in English or Polish. Well done! Looking forward to more content as your site develops.

This site, run by Tim Evans, a sandan of the Glynneath Karate Club in the UK is a nice club site. The style is Wado-Ryu, but they claim to draw on other martial arts styles as well to learn and explore new things. I liked the statement, “Ignorance is not bliss”. This site, like most club sites has short snippets of information on Karate history and some curious quotes about the Samurai Spirit. All of that is fine and good, but historically the samurai were never “sentinels of peace”. Just a quibble. At any rate, this is a neat little site and I really liked the yelping that accompanies the extensive Grading Syllabus page. Fun.

www.karate.ch

This Swiss site is put together by Pierre Feldmann. The colors are beautiful and this site looks very smooth. I can't read a word of it, but I liked the look of it. You can also contact Pierre at karateskr@swisssonline.ch should you be in the neighborhood and are looking for a dojo to train in. Nice site Pierre. Good job.

www.tora-ryu.de

This is a nice looking German site with a lot of photos and club information. Loads quick, navigates smoothly, and has nice colors and images. Nico Steenblock is the brains behind this operation. This club looks like they do more than only Shotokan karate, and are also involved in Kobudo, grappling, and full-out self defense training. Nice site.

www.shotokanireland.org

Thomas Hurley put together a very clean looking site here. Updated frequently, this site has several new developing sections. This site lists all the college karate clubs in Ireland. Also has a guestbook, links page, and list of required reading for Irish Shotokan karate players. Thanks for the link Thomas!

www.dojo.ro

Ramona Iftode put together this beautiful web site for Romanian Shotokan karate. It has a lot of bells and whistles, but still loads very quick, is smooth, has brilliant colors, and as far as I can tell (not being able to read Romanian) a whack of information. Lots of pages to go through and to snoop around in. Wish I were more multi-lingual to enjoy it in its entirety. Thank you very much for linking to KTJW!

www.hsk.co.uk

Stevan Harrison of the HSK (Hampshire Shotokan Karate) Basingstoke dojo is the head honcho of this site. Affiliated with the JSKA, EJKA, WJKA, and EKGB, this site is a very nicely put together club site with a fair bit of information. One thing in particular that I liked were some of the notes to help students who were facing a grading with information as to exactly what the evaluators are looking for. Navigates very well, this site also has a fair number of photos as well, karate related and otherwise. Well done.

http://leicesterkarateclub.co.uk

Dave Wilkins is the Chief Instructor of the Leicester Karate Club. This site is quite an extensive club site and has a whole bunch of different sections to it ranging from Terminology, Syllabus, Benefits, and Links to Karate History (in the process of being updated at this time), Contact information, and a pretty good FAQ. Under Links you will find a link to this site, way way down at the bottom, under “Others”. LOL! That was great! I was simply tickled to be considered “Other”. Anyway, a fun site, with a large student base apparently. This club also offers judo and aikido lessons. Cool. Nice work Dave.

www.communigate.co.uk/oxford/shotokankaratebicester

Steve Goad is the manager of this site in Bicester, UK. A very nice looking club site which has very smooth navigation.

http://www.young-tigers.com

This club site from Edmonton, England is a club site that promotes karate for kids. The index page seems to show it all. Kids in karate gis having a good time and looking like they are enjoying themselves. There is a glossary of terms with pictures of kids demonstrating the stances and moves. A site for kids and examples by kids. I thought that was kind of cool. This club also seems to use a kind of merit badge system too. It would be interesting to hear more about some of these innovations for kids classes. Inquire within.

www.kainankaratekai.co.uk

A very nice site. Run by Gary Quinn. This site impressed me especially in its section of doing community service and contributing to children's charities. The dojo kun springs into action! Check out this site and its section called "The Barefoot Walk". It might be the kind of inspiration your group can use to focus some of its efforts on philanthropic work. Karate clubs that want to become more involved in their communities and neighborhoods might get some good advice from these folks.

http://www.funakoshikarate.com

A nicely designed site from Belgium. Jeroen Proost brings this site to life with a lot of jumping and kicking things that leap around the page. I thought that was pretty cool, although there is nothing leaping and jumping around on my site. Choose your language and check out the site.

http://www.wenessia.com

This is the motherload of martial arts search engines. There is an absolute ton of material here to help you search out martial arts clubs, styles, and locations. With very nice colors and images Mr. Wenessia has put together a remarkable site here. If your club or martial arts website is not registered here you should go and check it out and get your info in there. Multilingual site too. Cool.

www.chelmsford-karate.co.uk

Jane Naylor-Jones of the KUGB has put together a marvelous looking site. Packed with a lot of history, information, photos, and more. The site is extremely well-organized and has beautiful colors and images. Jane Naylor-Jones belongs to a long heritage of karate in her family so she knows what she is doing here. Also, the tone of the site is quite welcoming and quite informative for beginners. I liked the very sensible Japanese language pronunciation guide as well as the fundamentals illustrations. Nice work.

http://www.eskk.nu

This Swedish site is run by Leslie Jensen, a very nice person and Go-dan who I have recently had the marvelous opportunity to correspond with and who is running a club and a site in Sweden. His site, as far as my Swedish goes, looks pretty nice. Full of links to other interesting karate sites in Sweden and elsewhere. Leslie was also so kind to translate some of www.karatethejapaneseway.com into Swedish for his non-English speaking students. I thought that was pretty cool. Thanks Leslie!

www.karate-london.co.uk

Run by Rod Butler, the Chingford & Wanstead Shotokan Karate Club website is a beauty to behold. Full of little pop-up boxes, the ones that take you to different sections of the site, this is a beautifully constructed homepage. Nice work. There is a lot of information here, but you have to ferret it out a little. Nicely done, beautiful, and innovative web work.

http://www.otomo-zittau.de

This is a neatly designed German karate site which looks, and feels very smooth. Colors are nice, graphics are well placed and designed. I can't read German so cannot comment about the content but Thomas Honel understands English perfectly well so you can contact him directly through the site. Nicely done Thomas!

http://www.shindoryu.org

An interesting site, with a groovy index page, this is home to the Sekai Shindo-Ryu Karate-Do Renmei. Even though that sounds like quite a mouthful, this organization purports to do two very interesting things. First, they are an organization which is interested in maintaining a traditional approach to karate and kobudo and second, they address their training primarily at a Western audience. I like that approach. This is an organization that sounds quite promising. This is an organization that also is not too crazy about “sport karate”. I like these guys already. Headquartered in England, this club is one that you might consider checking out should you be in the neighborhood.

http://www.eajs.org.uk

This is the link for the Essex Anglo-Japanese Society. Although karate has been nicely transplanted in Western nations throughout the world, it is nice to have cultural ties with Japan, its culture, and traditions.

http://www.tairyoku.co.uk

This is home to the Tairyoku Shotokan Karate Club. A nice looking site that is easy to navigate around, this site is made in nice tones which are easy on the eyes. A lot of information about other styles of martial arts can be found in this site, but you have to go and dig around in the links pages. A few pop- ups decorate this site as well, and although not my favorite thing to have on a site, it seems to be quite popular with lots of internet karate sites.

Note: This site uses Shockwave Flash but it is not required.

http://www.CSKA.org.uk

Nice-looking Welsh site. Lots of photos and beautiful colors throughout. The name of the organization is the Chikara Shotokan Karate Academy. Well done and nicely designed.

http://www.rskc.org

An excellent and beautifully designed site. The colors are great, navigation smooth, and lots of things to look at. This site is also absolutely jammed with photos. It takes a little to get all the thumbnails of the pages to come up, but it is worth the wait. Congratulations on a very well designed site. Well done!

If you would like to talk about exchanging links with Karate The Japanese Way, please feel free to contact me at mark@karatethejapaneseway.com. Content should be karate based and primarily for the purposes of education or providing resources and instruction for beginners to karate.
